After residency Dr. Tantawi served as the Chief of out-patient pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center taking the honor of being the first full-time female physician ever hired by the hospital. After seven years of devoted service, setting up the standard of care to grow to what it is now, she then started her own private practice in 1985 and has been going strong ever since. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents. Currently holds an academic appointment as clinical assistant professor at UMDNJ and as an instructor at New York Medical College. Married with two children, Mohamed (Dr. Mo) and Shirley (a special education teacher), whom she has great pride in. She enjoys her four lovely grandchildren (Dr. Mo's twins and Shirley's two boys). Loves reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. "I love taking care of my patients and I feel privileged to be a part of their lives from infancy through the college years. I strongly believe that medicine is not just a science but an art and finding the balance between the two makes a physician exceptional." - Dr. Tantawi
